This September calls from alarmed parents to the “Protect with the Heart” hotline operating under the auspices of the federal social project became more numerous. The stories went almost the same: the kid comes home in a state of drug intoxication, the tests however detecting no drugs in his/her urine. The children themselves say they’ve been smoking the so-called “Spice”…
“Spice” is a smoking blend free on sale. It is a dried herbal mixture similar to tobacco that is rolled up and smoked like a cigarette. A dose is about 500 Rub. According to experts, revenues from smoking mixtures sales account for over 4000 %!
Salavat substance abuse professionals say, the effect of smoking mixtures and aroma-blends is 100 % similar to that of taking light drugs. Nevertheless, none of them is included in any of official drugs lists so the authorities can not take major steps to prevent their abuse and distribution.
According to preliminary estimates, there are more than 10 outlets in Salavat alone where smoking blends can be legally bought, “Spice” among them.
It is public organizations who should be the first to react here, the public indicating the problem to the authorities. Hence, within the “Protect with the Heart” program of Salavatnefteorgsintez JSC the “No Drugs on Shop Counters” action will take place in November and December of this year.
The company aims to attract attention of the public and the government to the new threat. Drugs are changing; huge money is put into creating new mixtures that will not be detected in tests. Legislative authorities do not keep up with it failing to trace and ban new substances in time.
The action’s objective is to arrange collection of signatures under the address of Salavat residents to President of the Russian Federation and State Duma deputies demanding to ban smoking blends sales in the country.
The signatures collection will start November, 23. Our Media Service will promptly inform you on the location of signatures collection points as well as the action’s progress and results.
